The Most Successful Teenage Bodybuilder Of All Time?

Harold Poole (December 25, 1943 – August 2, 2014) at age 19, won the IFBB Mr. Universe. A year later he was the first African America to win the IFBB Mr. America and successfully defended his Mr. Universe title again. He is the only man to compete in the first three Mr. Olympia contests and the youngest man to have ever competed. He was 21 years old when he first competed.  He placed 2nd to Larry Scott in 1965, a controversial second in 1966 and third to Sergio Oliva in 1967. Many people feel he was “ripped off.” Sadly, he didn’t earn one penny for his placings. In that era, only the winner won prize money and that was only $1000. The current Mr. Olympia wins $275,000!

Harold was a natural athlete playing football, running track and wrestling in high school. He was a big guy; 6’0, 270+ lbs. off season, and up to 245-250 contest ready.
Harold Poole is probably the most successful teen bodybuilder of all time. He remained a devoted trainer and martial arts instructor. I wouldn’t want to mess with that guy!
