Do you know Earl?

Earl Maynard is another great bodybuilder from the Golden Era that deserves more recognition. He competed in the first two Mr. Olympia contests and placed third in both, beating out Sergio Oliva who placed 4th in 1966.

Maynard, originally from Barbados won the Mr. Europe, in 1959, Mr. England in 1960, the Pro NABBA 1964 Universe, the IFBB, 1965 Universe and the 1978 Masters Mr. AmericaAAU contest. This guy was a champion over a 20-year period! He accomplished all of this while wrestling professionally as “Mr. Universe” which he did from 1960 through the 1970’s. For a guy who at 17 was 5’10 and 130 pounds that’s even more impressive.

At 18, he moved to England where he earned a degree of M.S.F. in Physiotherapy in London.

Another bodybuilder that made it into films, Earl appeared in over 20 films most notably as the bad guy in “the Deep” with Nick Nolte.
